Safety Information

On the average 14 children a day are taken to hospitals for treatment to injuries due to falling out of windows. This doesn’t include the ones that are beyond help.

We are always concerned for your child’s safety here at Mobile Screens. I have been ever since my 2 year old son fell out of a first floor window and onto a concrete driveway below him. If I knew back then what I know now it never would have happened. There are simple common sense measures that anyone can do to prevent accidental falls.

Here are a few suggestions:

• First of all don’t rely on window screens to hold your child back. Insect screens are made to keep bugs out not children in.
• We suggest adding window guards such as “Guardian Angels” safety bars into your windows. They can be purchased at https://www.guardianangelwindowguards.com/. We can install them if you need help.
• Try restricting the windows with opening control devices such as pins, nails or locks so they only open up 4″.
• Don’t put beds or toy chests in front of windows for your child to climb up on and get closer to the window openings.
• Don’t leave young children unsupervised.
• Don’t depend on insect screens to keep children from falling out of windows.
• Don’t Paint, nail or seal windows shut.
• Don’t forget about window and door safety when making repairs to your home.
• Take the necessary steps to prevent your child from falling out. We realize that a big part of this safety concern is in educating the child as to the dangers of falling out of a window. As soon as your children are old enough to understand please sit down with them and read this information along with them. If they are too young to listen and understand then we highly suggest taking measures to prevent any accidents.

Read the results of a Scottish laboratory test that proved Storm windows were able to outperform new replacement windows. Click here. Check out pages 13 and 14. The storm windows (secondary glazing) out performed or closely matched the performance of replacement double pane windows for the U-Factor Value and heat loss. The space between the outer and inner glass is what determines the energy efficiency of the window. Storm windows have over 1″ of space and most replacement windows only have 3/8 to ½” of space between the 2 panes of glass. A larger space traps more heat especially on the sunny side of the house. I’ve taken temperature readings from the inside of new wood and vinyl windows and from our best series storm windows in the same house with all rooms showing the same floor, wall and ceiling temperatures, with an outside temperature of 42 degrees and the storm windows were usually warmer by 2-3 degrees. Just because the government gives tax rebates for new replacement windows doesn’t mean it’s the most efficient option to use. The rebates are all about jobs and helping the economy. I for one wouldn’t buy my car based on the rebates alone.
